It is located close to the River Thames and has been home to many historical events such as the Battle of Marlow in 1016, which was one of the bloodiest battles ever fought at that time. The town has also been featured in film and television such as Harry Potter and The Prisoner (2005) and Game of Thrones (2011).

There are many places around Marlow worth visiting if you’re interested in learning more about its past. Here are some suggestions:

South Marlow Castle

South Marlow Castle is a Grade I listed building, located in South Marlow. It was built in the 12th century and has been occupied by its owners ever since, who have included both the House of York and Plantagenet dynasties.

The castle’s popularity as an attraction has led to it being used as a filming location for film or television productions including Harry Potter and The Last King Of Scotland – both films were set at the property itself!

South Marlow Castle remains open to the public today (although only during daylight hours), so you can visit this impressive structure yourself if you’re interested in seeing what makes this place so special!

South Marlow Church

South Marlow Church is a Grade II listed building and was built in the 13th century. It was restored in 1887 by G A Minton from Corley, who also added a chancel, nave and south aisle. The church has a bell turret attached to its east wall which dates from around 1550 when it was first built.

The south porch has been described as “a magnificent piece of early English workmanship” by architects colleagues at Oxford Brookes University who carried out a Heritage Lottery Fund restoration project on this part of the church between 2010-2011.
