Abingdon is a city in Virginia, United States. The population was 7,359 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of and most populous city in Madison County. Abingdon is located at the junction of U.S Routes 11 and 231, about 30 miles south-southwest of Roanoke City, Virginia.

Big Spring Battlefield National Historical Park
Big Spring Battlefield is a historic site in Abingdon, Virginia. It’s the site of the largest cavalry battle in American history and was also where General Stonewall Jackson was buried after he died at Chancellorsville on May 2, 1863.

Abingdon Railroad Museum
The Abingdon Railroad Museum is a railroad museum located in Abingdon, Virginia. The museum is located at the site of the former Abingdon Railroad Station and has exhibits on railroads, locomotives and railroading history.
The museum has two restored passenger cars from different eras: an 1887 Baldwin Locomotive Works 0-6-0 steam engine car that operates as a display piece; and a 1928 Southern Railway GG1 electric locomotive which is used for tours and demonstrations.
